Forum: faqs Subject: OGG video file with wrong extension - fixable?

Hello,

In https://archive.org/details/stallman_geneva_2010, I uploaded https://archive.org/download/stallman_geneva_2010/Stalmann_720x480.ogg , which I had previously downloaded, zipped, from http://wwwedu.ge.ch/sem/gelibredu/ .

In spite of the .ogg extension, it is an OGG video, but the Internet Archive software read it as if it were an audio file.

Is there a way to fix that, perhaps rename the file with an .ogv extension, without reuploading it - or would that just make it totally unusable?

If no: should I change the extension to .ogv before reuploading it?

Lastly: the software derived an mp3 from the file: having an audio version is great, but I don't think Stallman would approve of an mp3 one. So I've made a really audio OGG file for later upload. But can I delete the derived mp3, or will the software re-derive it anyway?

Thank you in advance for your replies,

Claude Almansi

Err, so sorry: I now added an .srt subtitle file in https://archive.org/details/stallman_geneva_2010, and after that, the video file extension reverted from .ogv back to .ogg . May I have .ogv again, please? I promise I won't change the item's files anymore after that!
